Over the last couple of years, I have had the privilege and opportunity to either witness or participate in conversations revolving around the roles of mothers and sons...specifically with the beginning of and purpose of our son's manhood.
I will admit that I was a bit astonished that there seemed to be no difference in what was the "majority" of talkers when it came to allowing a child to lay down their lives for a cause that the son believed in and the "majority" of those same talkers who would move heaven and earth itself to keep their sons from feeling the full weight of the law (in those conversations, we were speaking of natural or man-made consequences for actual sin or breaking of a law). It didn't matter if the mother speaking was a Christian or not, political affiliations made no difference, conservative or liberal (though it was telling), rich or poor, like mindedness were shared among those with one son, or multiples...single child or a bountiful family. In every case the mother who would refuse the child to stand as a man for what he believed in was the same mother who would not allow authorities to rightfully and fully punish the same child for a cowardly illegal action.
Privately, I shake my head and wonder, will there be any Men among the men for my daughters to marry...or will their mothers have loved them into uselessness?
